Couple face court over animal ‘house of horror’

A couple, described as both aged 27, has been identified by the authorities for animal mistreatment after 17 dogs and 43 exotic birds were found in cages on their property in Alcanena (Santarém district).

The animals have all been ‘rescued’ by the authorities.

Say reports, police even found two dead dogs in the couple’s home.

The birds were all of species possession of which is ‘prohibited’ in Portugal.

It is unclear at this point whether the couple is Portuguese.

The case will be heard by the magistrates of Torres Novas court.
