A GERMAN couple were arrested on Saturday afternoon when they were caught vandalising a public payphone at the Albufeira marina.
According to a report in the Correio da Manhã newspaper, the couple aged 41 and 34, had used a circular saw to break into the coin box. They were found to have a Portuguese registered van which was uninsured and without a valid MOT.
A range of equipment believed to be for the use of breaking and entering was found inside the vehicle. Police uncovered screwdrivers, hammers, wire cutters and a power generator. The couple were due to be appear before the Albufeira court this week, but this was not confirmed by the time The Resident went to press.
