Counter attack!

Portimonense put an end to their dismal away form with an emphatic first Liga Orangina victory under new coach Carlos Mozer.

Mid-week training at the Cascade Resort facilities in Lagos, associated with former Benfica and England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson, paid off handsomely as an early Simi strike allowed the Algarveans to sit back and exploit Penafiel’s defensive shortcomings.

Rafa and Traore punished the home team further during the second half, the 3-0 result finally lifting Portimonense out of the relegation zone.

It is hoped that the club can continue its climb up the table on December 11 when Aves are the visitors.

Meanwhile, Penafiel will provide the opposition once more after the latest League Cup draw placed them in the same Group C as Portimão along with Braga and Nacional de Madeira.

Those matches are scheduled for January 2/3, 18 and February 4/5. S.B.
