VILA REAL de Santo António Câmara is going ahead with the removal of the metallic structures known as cogumelos (mushrooms) from Marquês de Pombal and from other locations in the city.
The decision, taken by Câmara President Luís Gomes and his team, fulfills a promise from his electoral campaign, respecting the wishes of local residents. In addition, the council will go ahead with a cleaning operation, providing assistance where necessary to the owners of the buildings surrounding the Praça, informing them of the need to paint the facades.
In regard to plans to safeguard the historic centre, the council intends to present restaurant and café owners with shade solution proposals in order to preserve the area’s aesthetic appeal. The addition of council support for this project aims to improve the enjoyment of both residents and those who visit the city.
