Piped natural gas prices could rise in the New Year in councils that decide to apply taxes to gas companies for the use of the land where the pipelines are placed.
This new tax, which could be passed to customers’ gas bills, was discussed during the re-negotiation of gas company contracts with the government.
Consumer rights body Deco is working towards stopping this measure which would be another burden for consumers.
Meanwhile, the opposition PSD party has requested a six-month delay on the application of the new tax law.
