Socialist leader António Costa has vowed once again to return restaurants’ VAT rating to 13%, saying the PSD/CDS-PP government has “disregarded” the sector by insisting rates stay at 23%.
Affirming that restaurants are “essential for the economy”, he claimed “around 30,000 companies and 90,000 jobs have been lost,” as a result of the government’s intransigence.
The Socialist leader told journalists that his party’s opinions, and those of the unions, were ignored.
A country should be governed “in constant dialogue”, he explained, “acknowledging the effects of measures that are taken and correcting them when necessary. But what was done in the restaurant sector proves that we cannot allow this government to stay in office.”
