Costa accuses Russia of “war against democracy”

An extraordinary meeting this afternoon of NATO countries – which included representation from Sweden and Finland – saw PM António Costa emerge accusing Russia of waging a war against democracy; a war against liberty for a democratic country to make its own decisions. It did not help that Sweden and Finland’s participation in the meeting caused what the international press has described as “a bone chilling message” from Russia, not to go the same way as Ukraine. Mr Costa stressed: “Russia has to understand that each country is independent and free in their self-determination. Sweden and Finland are independent and, in that freedom, they can decide who they participate with and who are their allies.
