Police recovered 890 kilos of stolen copper cable which had been secretly stored near the coach terminal in Caliços, Albufeira, and stripped of its plastic casing ready for sale on the illicit market.

The discovery of a firing process used to separate the pure copper was detected by police who found piles of the stolen metal ready for burning . The thief was using a hosepipe 500 metres long linked to the nearby market enclosure to quench the flames during the purification process.

A 56-year-old Portuguese woman was identified and the case sent to Albufeira court.
