Two schools in the Almancil area have been the recipients of modern air conditioning systems thanks to the generosity of a local benefactor, who passed on funds to Algarve children’s charity ACCA, and a generous parent.
The first of the schools to receive the new air conditioning systems was Asas para Amanhã, part of a national charity project to offer education and activity programmes for underprivileged children.
Sanda Ciorba, the coordinator of the centre, said: “We provide local children from poor backgrounds with access to educational resources. However, in a small classroom crammed with children, the heat from the computers was almost unbearable so we are very grateful to ACCA and Penguin for their generosity.”
On the other side of Almancil, more students were benefiting from air conditioning thanks to a donation from one of the parents of a pupil at the International School São Lourenço, ISSL.
All the buildings at the school now have new air conditioning systems which have been installed by Penguin.
Terry McGuire, the head teacher at the ISSL, said: “As a not for profit institution, it is sometimes difficult to access good quality resources. However, thanks to the generosity of a parent together with the invaluable project guidance and installation from Penguin, the school now offers a more comfortable learning environment for the pupils.”
