Controversial judge handed ‘instruction phase’ for BES trial

Judge Ivo Rosa – the judge who caused an uproar by decimating the Public Ministry’s Marquês investigation (click here) in the so-called instruction phase, has been handed the BES dossier to decide whether or not that should move forwards to trial as well. The BES case involves 25 ‘arguidos’: 18 of them actual people plus seven businesses. At issue is a value “superior to 11.8 billion euros” says DCIAP (criminal investigators). Former top banker at BES, Ricardo Salgado, faces 65 alleged crimes, including corruption and document falsification. Mr Salgado meantime has been diagnosed as suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease (click here).
