Castro Marim inaugurated its new continuing care health facility on August 1 in the parish of Azinhal, which has increased the region’s hospital bed count by 30 and represents a €2.4 million investment, €750.000 of which was provided by the Ministry of Health.
The new establishment will be run by the ABESFA social solidarity association, which stated that the project was intended mainly at receiving the older population of the region, with the “dignity and respect with which they deserve to be treated.”
The unit, named Unidade de Cuidados Continuados Integrados de Longa Duração e Manutenção do Azinhal, occupies an area of 2,000 square metres divided between two floors, and an outdoor area of 6,700 sqm.
By the end of the year two further units are expected to start operating in Estoi and Aljezur, as part of the same support programme by the Ministry of Health, called Programa Modelar II.
The Estoi development is still going through the process of obtaining licences and purchasing equipment, while the Aljezur centre is close to concluding its construction work.
