A PROPOSAL to increase the size of Lisbon’s Alcântara maritime container terminal was due to be presented during a public Câmara meeting on Wednesday, despite being met by protests from local residents.
A change in the law that altered the concession rights of Liscont, the company that manages the maritime port has led to this project, which proposes to triple the capacity of the terminal.
A group of Lisbon residents and politicians including ex-Câmara President, Carmona Rodrigues, launched a petition on Monday against the increase of the terminal, with the slogan “Lisbon is for people, No more containers.”
