Passengers can now purchase tickets on board Faro’s Próximo public transport networkusing contactless bank cards, phones or smartwatches.

Thanks to a new platform implemented on Faro’s Próximo public transport network, since September 1, passengers can purchase tickets onboard buses using contactless bank cards, phones or smartwatches.

The dematerialisation of the ticketing system “will make it possible to reduce the use of paper and plastic and reduce the number of trips to the ticket offices by at least 30%”, says a spokesperson.

The implementation of the ‘mobility-as-a-service’ (MaaS) platform Pick, created by the Portuguese startup Ubirider, on the Próximo network is the result of a partnership between Mastercard and the Barraqueiro Group.
