The role of consular officers in ensuring the success of the tourism sector in the Algarve was discussed at a recent meeting called by the Algarve Tourism Board.
President Desidério Silva spoke during the informal meeting about why the work of consular bodies in the Algarve was vital and raised awareness about the need to protect the economic interests of the region.
He said: “We all need to work together to ensure that the tourism industry succeeds, particularly during times of recession.”
Desidério Silva also thanked the consuls for their outstanding work in supporting foreign nationals requiring their services.
Other issues raised during the meeting included simplifying the toll payment system on the A22, new flight routes for Faro airport and tourist promotion campaigns abroad.
Consuls were invited for another meeting at the tourism board headquarters in Faro within three months.
