Health Minister Ana Jorge met with Portimão Câmara President Manuel da Luz on December 30 to lay the first stone of the council’s Al-Vita continuing care unit.
Due to bad weather, the stone laying was carried out as a symbolic act in the Câmara building, where the keys to 13 new fully equipped continuing care vehicles were also handed over by the health minister.
Horácio Nunes, a spokesman for the company responsible for the project, PRO-FN Serviços de Saúde Lda, said: “We are going to invest around seven million euros, creating around 60 to 70 new jobs in Quinta da Ouriva, a place with excellent access and very close to the Barlavento hospital.”
He added that the construction work is due to start this month and be complete within 2010. The unit will include facilities for medium term care and rehabilitation and long term care and maintenance, each with 35 beds.
