Construction of the new Altura beach boardwalk linking Praia de Verdelago (Altura) and Praia da Lota (Manta Rota) has begun and is “moving along nicely”, the local council has announced.
The 1.5-kilometre boardwalk will be elevated from the ground in order to protect the dunes from the stomping of beachgoers, thus allowing for their conservation.
The project’s second phase will eventually link the boardwalk to Monte Gordo beach, says the council.
Representing an investment of over €752,000, the project also includes the renovation of five beach access points.
