Construction crisis

An increasing number of workers in the construction sector in Portugal are finding themselves without a job.

This week, data released by the Portuguese federation of the construction industry and public works (Fepicop) showed that the number of jobless people in the sector had risen to 74 per cent in just three months.

According to Fepicop, the figure is likely to increase until the end of the year, with many workers now choosing to travel to countries such as France, Belgium, Angola and Morocco to find employment.

In Portugal, a construction worker earns around 540 euros. In France the wages are around 2,500 euros.
