Gallery Sala Simba in Olhão is hosting an innovative art exhibition titled ‘Constellation.’
Curated by artist Jermay Michael Gabriel and art adviser Ekua Yankah, the exhibition brings together a diverse group of contemporary African artists from different corners of the world.
Running until September 30, it is the second exhibition to grace the walls of the gallery since its opening in September 2022.
‘Constellations’ is presented as a “bold and innovative artistic display, exploiting the emerging concept of interconnectedness as a key tool for amalgamating a variety of artistic manifestations. “Each artist is presented as an autonomous entity, contributing to a unique ecosystem of creative expression. However, it is in the emergence of an inherent connectivity between these different ecosystems sharing a common space that lies the power of this approach. This cohabitation challenges predefined narratives and shared practices, developing instead through a natural process of interaction and exchange,” the gallery says.
“This form of dialogue transcends geographic and cultural boundaries, and the act of bringing these different art forms together becomes a tangible example of the potential of heterogeneity in fostering mutual understanding.
“The exhibition challenges viewers to go beyond the superficial aesthetic dimension, inviting
them to thoroughly examine the unexpected interactions between the works,” it adds.
The list of participating artists includes Theo Gould, Sophie Kabaka, Tristany Mundu, Rafaela A. Neto, Tobi Onabolu and Jessica Sarkodie.
Sala Simba is located on Rua Carlos de Maia, no.40, and the exhibition can be visited from Thursday to Saturday from 10am to 1pm.
