AN OPEN-AIR classical music concert is returning to Vale do Lobo with an outstanding young conductor. On Sunday, June 26, the Algarve Orchestra will return to the luxury resort’s venue under the stars.
To celebrate the orchestra’s third anniversary, conductor Joana Carneiro will lead 31 talented musicians to perform works by Beethoven and Wagner in the setting of the 18th green of the Vale do Lobo Championship Course.
At the age of 28, Joana has attracted considerable attention as an outstanding young conductor, forging a strong career in both the US and Europe and being appointed recently as the conducting fellow of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Currently, Joana serves as music director of the Los Angeles Debut Orchestra, having won the Young Musician’s Foundation’s 2002 National Conductor Search, and is pursuing her Doctorate with a full scholarship at the University of Michigan.
Last year, Joana was decorated by the President of the Portuguese Republic, Jorge Sampaio, with the Commendation of the Order of the Infante Dom Henrique.
The evening will commence at 7.30pm with cocktails on the terrace at Spikes in Parque do Golfe, followed by the performance at 8pm. Tickets, at 30 euros for the general public, can be purchased at the Vale do Lobo reception. Tel289 353 322, Fax 289 353 001 or e-mail [email protected]
