Concerns over water quality

Three months after a fault in the sewage outfall at Praia dos Pescadores (Fishermen Beach) in Albufeira was detected, the area continues to be affected by dirty water and foul smell.

Substances suspected of being traces of oils and fuels have also been found in the water.

The regional water authority (ARH) collected samples of the water to analyse and to evaluate if the beach water quality is being affected.

A spokesman from ARH told the Algarve Resident: “We do not have the results yet. The tests will confirm if the water is suitable for swimming.

“If the results show that there are not conditions for bathing, the beach will be closed for swimming until the situation is resolved. At this time of the year, there are still tourists who bathe in these waters.”

Praia dos Pescadores is one of the city’s busiest beaches.
