Concern in Pedrógão Grande over where firefighters will find water this summer to combat forest fires

Up until now it has been the unspoken fear of a country in a state of drought: what will happen in the summer, when the ‘fire season’ begins, and all our reservoirs and dams are so dry firefighting planes will be unable to use them? Yesterday, António Lopes, mayor of Pedrógão Grande – the community shattered by forest fires in 2017 – faced the demons, saying he was “very concerned… We don’t know if water levels of the (Cabril) reservoir will recover and the summer is almost upon us”, he told reporters. Pedrógão Grande is a long way from the coast.
