I am writing on behalf of Fernando Lopes, the Algarve head of the Liga Portuguesa dos Direitos do Animal, the Portuguese league for animal rights. He would appreciate if the following open letter, addressed to the Ambassador of the United Kingdom in Portugal, could be published in your paper, with compliments to the British couple, Nicole and Jonathan Cooksley, for their altruistic gesture towards a desperate animal (read The Resident’s article ‘New home in UK for stray dog from Azores’, September 16, 2005).
