Community news. Social club’s annual trip

MORE THAN 40 members of CASA social club left the Algarve on November 5 for their annual six day trip, this year to the north of Portugal.

The first day’s journey lead the group to Castelo Branco in the Ribatejo region where they stayed for one night and visited the local Jardim Episcopal garden. The following day the group headed north to Regua in the Douro Region, via Guarda and Viseu.

The group, comprising 44 members, then stayed for three nights at the Hotel Regua, with guided tours each day. The next stop on the journey was at Mirandela where a scheduled train ride along the river Tua had been cancelled due to storm damage to the line. Instead the group took a tourist road train tour around the town before lunch.

An early start the next day led to Braga where the group visited the Sanctuary de Bom Jesus. The final night was spent at a Pousada, a converted Manor house in Estremoz. On the final day, the group visited the local Saturday morning regional market before visiting Arraiolas to see the art of rug making and arriving back in the Algarve in the afternoon.
