Community mourns death of school director

Educational director Dr Renato Costa of the Vilamoura International School died on Monday following a long illness.

He died in the hospital of Barreiro and a funeral service was held on Tuesday in the Capela da Misericórdia of Barreiro, south of Lisbon.

Renato Joaquim Prazeres Costa was born on June 1, 1960 in Barreiro.

Educational director of the Vilamoura International School since 1987, he was an influential figure within the Algarve’s international schooling community.

In a statement posted on their website, the Vilamoura International School said: “Dr Renato was a man dedicated to the science of education and the development of international education.”

A Facebook message, one of many posted by past and present students, reads: “Dear Dr Renato, we want to thank you for everything you did for the Vilamoura International School, it was a great honour to have had you as part of our educational journey. Students, please continue to pass this message around. We will not forget you Dr Renato, rest

in peace.”

Renato Costa was also author of the book Education for life – a project of international education in the century XXI, based on his 24 years of international education.

In addition, he carried out many culinary projects, resulting in the publishing of three books called On low heat, Imaginary and Reflected Shadows.

The school activities were suspended on Tuesday and Wednesday.
