ALTO DO FORTE in Serra das Minas, Sintra, is to benefit from a new community centre, aimed at providing much-needed new facilities for children and old people. The new centre will include a crèche for 25 babies, a nursery school for 50 children and an after school club (ATL) for 50 children. In addition, 24 teenagers will be able to take advantage of occupational activities and professional training to prepare them for their future working lives.
The elderly of Alto do Forte will also benefit from the new community centre as it will operate a social club, a day centre and offer a support service for the housebound.
A general education and training area is also to be developed where a variety of classes will be held including ceramics, carpentry, computing, hairdressing and cookery. The construction of the community centre is set to begin this summer.
