Commandos trial sees three soldiers handed suspended jail terms, 16 absolved

The long drawn-out trial of various commandos cited over the agonising deaths in 2016 of two young recruits has ended today with three receiving suspended jail terms, and 16 being absolved. The ‘guilty’ include instructor Ricardo Rodrigues, who faced up to 10 years jail, but was handed three – not to be served unless he gets in trouble with the law again. Rodrigues nonetheless was found guilty of abusing his authority by causing grievous bodily harm and endangering life The parents of the two young men who died have said they will be appealing the verdict.
