Portimao’s desire to turn over a new leaf in their first match of 2009 proved futile as visiting Beira-Mar left the Algarve with a share of the points.
An elementary goalkeeping error at either end following an uneventful first half produced the 1-1 score line which left the once high-flying Liga Vitalis side floundering in 12th place and in desperate need of a win against Vizela last Sunday.
This time manager Vitor Pontes’ men started more brightly, Hugo Santos finding the back of the net 22 minutes into the game before the visitors equalised. The second half saw Vizela take the initiative only for Portimao to regain control of the game and restore parity.
Two home draws from as many games do not bode well for the team’s promotion hopes, however, the top two teams edging further out of reach as the season progresses.
