‘Last Tango in Little Grimley’ and ‘Lockdown in Little Grimley’, playing in Lagoa on March 23, 24 and 25
With The Algarveans’ double bill of ‘Last Tango in Little Grimley’ and ‘Lockdown in Little Grimley’, two one-act plays by David Tristram, opening in a few weeks, director Angela Theobold reveals why she chose these comedies.
“I particularly like the ‘Little Grimley’ plays, as after perusing several scripts, these were the first that made me laugh out loud,” Angela says. “They also mirror the struggles of a small amateur dramatic society – something most amateur thespians and their audiences will recognise – as well as being a wonderful commentary on the phrase ‘art imitating life imitating art’.”
‘Last Tango in Little Grimley’ is about a village amateur dramatic club whose membership has dwindled to four with audiences that aren’t much bigger. And if they don’t come up with some rent money soon, they’re going to be thrown out. But Gordon the Chairman has an idea guaranteed to put bums on seats. Thus begins the chaotic and hilarious build-up to an evening of extraordinary home-grown drama – an evening the locals will never forget!
In ‘Lockdown in Little Grimley’, Gordon calls a meeting, complete with social distancing, to discuss his idea for their next production – a touching love story set in a hospital, with all profits destined for the NHS. But based on their previous efforts, will the NHS end up worse off?
Double bill ‘Last Tango in Little Grimley’ and ‘Lockdown in Little Grimley’ is playing at the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium in Lagoa on March 23, 24 and 25 at 7.45pm.
