For a month, 350 members of Lisbon’s special police unit have been forced to shower after daily training exercises in cold water. It is not part of being toughened-up. It is due to a failure in the hot-water boiler – and according to reports, the men are not happy. There is “a feeling of discomfort” and calls to “resolve the problem as soon as possible”, said a source.
This week’s freezing winds are understood to have increased the men’s “discontentment”.
Meantime, inquiries to the PSP to find out when the boiler is to be repaired have met with what could be termed ‘ice-cold’ silence.
