Cold Christmas

Christmas will see low temperatures throughout Portugal, which will remain for the following week.

According to the Portuguese Institute of Meteorology (IM) today (Friday), the average minimum temperature in the country will be 2°C and the maximum 10°C.

According to IM, this cold wave has been spreading throughout Europe and will now be hitting Portugal.

With the low temperatures, hospital emergency wards in Portugal have been bursting at the seams. According to a spokesman at the Hospital de Santa Maria in Lisbon, the unit records a daily average of 700 patients, while the rest of the year the average is around 500.
