Clube Naval de Portimão, the town’s nautical sports club, has announced the creation of a “top-class” underwater spearfishing team in a bid to celebrate Portimão’s title of ‘European City of Sport’ in 2019.
The team features Jody Lot, Matthias Sandeck and Humberto Silva who together have won the national spearfishing championship for the last three years.
Jody and Matthias have also enjoyed individual success. Jody has won two world titles, one European/African title as well as three national championships and one Portuguese cup, while Matthias was the national Masters champion in 2013.
CNP aims to bolster the sport in Portimão and the Algarve and bring the national championship back to the town, which hasn’t happened since 2010.
