Clive Dunn helps Algarve firemen

news: Clive Dunn helps Algarve firemen

THE LIONS Clube de Loulé held their garden party at Quinta do Lago recently. The funds raised from the event went towards the purchase of fire protection suits for the bombeiros.

The much loved actor and comedian Clive Dunn, always remembered as Lance Corporal Jack Jones in Dad’s Army, opened the party and stayed on to sign photographs, generously supplied by him, to help raise funds for our local heroes.

The success of the day was thanks to the many people who gave their time to entertain and help, especially the singers of São Lourenço School, the fashion show presented by Joan and Esther Dunne of Emeralde, and the trumpet playing of Sr. Miceli.

The successful grand draw, auction and tombola were due to the many generous gifts from people and companies in the Algarve. An autographed CD by Sir Cliff Richard was auctioned for 40 euros. Retired Chief Fire Officer from Norfolk, UK, Harold Wilkinson, presented his ‘Fireman’s Piggy Bank’ with 16 euros.

The Lions Clube de Loulé would like to thank everyone who attended and gave so generously, helping to raise a grand total of more than 4,900 euros. They have now purchased six fire protection suits, which will be presented to the Loulé bombeiros very soon.
