Climate activists paint private jet at Tires aerodrome

Members of the Climáximo movement entered Tires aerodrome in Cascais this morning, daubed a private jet with paint, and chained themselves to its wheels in protest to greenhouse gas emissions from luxury flights. In a statement, the movement said the aim of today’s intervention was to denounce “the luxury flights of the super-rich and the criminal hypocrisy of world leaders travelling to COP28 in a mode of transport that is the pinnacle of climate injustice”. Police were called. It is unclear as to whether or not there were further arrests. Climate groups in Lisbon have become increasingly strident over recent weeks, resulting in a number of detentions/ court appearances.
