Climate activists charged with civil disobedience

As many as 16 climate activists have been formally charged with civil disobedience over the protest carried out near the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) in September when a meeting of the Council of Ministers was due to take place. Activists have been holding demonstrations and actions a great deal in recent months to demand an end to fossil fuels by 2030 and 100% renewable and affordable electricity by 2025, insisting that this be the last winter that fossil fuels are used in Portugal. Many have gone on to be arrested, thus the trickling through now of formal charges.
