Fisherman’s Beach in Albufeira has been cut off to traffic since Thursday of last week, in preparation for Sir Cliff Richard’s open-air concert to commemorate the city’s 500th birthday tonight (August 20).
Desidério Silva, President of Albufeira Câmara, said the elaborate measures resulted from what he called “the technical complexity of the spectacular”. Explaining that the stage had come from England, Silva said the day would be a prestigious occasion for the city: “A concert such as this is very important in terms of promotion. People were given plenty of warning about the concert and they must understand that the benefits far outweigh the disadvantages.”
Singing in the rain: A spokesperson from Albufeira Câmara also confirmed that the concert would go ahead as planned without any changes despite a possible threat of rain.
