The Algarve Classic Festival is to be re-launched as a major European event towards the end of this year.
The AIA Portimão Motor Park has announced the return of the popular racing weekend between October 18 and 21 and has guaranteed its continued presence on an annual basis thereafter.
Among the featured events will be the Stirling Moss Trophy involving pre-1961 sports-racers, the Motor Racing Legends Pre-War Sports Car Series, the JD Classics Challenge for Touring Cars dating from 1966 to 1985, a race for under-two-litre Touring Cars, ‘1000km’ open to pre-1972 sports-racers and a GT and Sports Cars Cup for pre-1966 and pre-1963 models respectively.
Experts, drivers, organisers and fans are unanimous in their praise for the unique and challenging AIA track as well as its picturesque setting, facts which combined to prove instrumental in bringing about the populist revival of a bigger and better Classic Festival. S.B.
