Civil governor resigns post

The civil governor of the Algarve, Isilda Gomes, is due to resign her post on August 16 in order to stand as an MP in Portugal’s parliament in this year’s elections.

A spokesman from the civil government in Faro told the Algarve Resident: “Dra. Isilda Gomes must resign her current post if she is to become an MP because the role is not compatible by law with her candidacy.”

According to the spokesman, a new civil governor for the Algarve will be nominated by the minister of internal affairs by August 17.
