The lives of two friends are turned around in the Brazilian slum of Morro da Sinuca, after one friend, Laranjinha, tells his best friend Acerola, a couple of days before his eighteenth birthday, that he misses his unknown father.
Acerola decides to help Laranjinha to find his father and they discover that he is in prison convicted of killing a man during a robbery and is soon to be released on parole.
Gradually, as life in the slum becomes harder due to drug gang related violence, Acerola and Laranjinha unravel the past about both of their fathers.
