LISBON Câmara has decided to open the doors of the historic City Hall so that its citizens and foreign visitors can experience the splendour of this magnificent building.
Guided tours will take place on the second and fourth Sunday of each month, from November through to February, starting on November 14 and 28, at 10.30am and 11.30am.
The Lisbon City Hall building is considered to be a State headquarters. Very few Portuguese or foreign people have had the chance to enter the grand rooms of this architectural masterpiece, but those who have visited have always been fascinated by its beauty and the grandness of the décor. The building was initially built in 1775, and rebuilt after a fire in 1863 almost destroyed it. It is full of magnificent paintings and furniture, which take you back to the 14th century.
Anyone wishing to take a tour should call into the main entrance of the building in Praça do Município, 15 minutes before it is due to start.
