Citizens protest outside Ministry of Housing

For all the government’s proposals laid out in its controversial ‘Mais Habitação’ programme, the housing ‘crisis’ remains unchanged. Today citizens have been protesting outside the Housing Ministry over the increases in interest rates and “insufficiency of actions and measures to help families in difficulty”. Say reports, DECO (consumer association) has received over 2,000 calls for help from cash-strapped families in two months. Today’s protest, in face of yet another increase in interest rates announced by the European Central Bank, sought to ensure that no bank takes more than 35% of a customer’s revenue for mortgage instalments.
