World-famous Canadian circus company Cirque du Soleil has announced plans to dismiss 400 workers (10% of its workforce) in order to cut “growing costs”.
The company that was established 29 years ago recorded a turnover of €763 million in 2012, one of its best years ever, with more than 14 million tickets sold to 19 shows in the US, Europe and Asia. However, the company did not make a profit.
Renee-Claude Menard, spokesman for Cirque du Soleil, said: “We want to make clear that the Cirque is not in crisis.”
