Circuit approved for racing

MOTORCYCLE RACES are now officially able to take place at the Algarve motor park near Alvor, after officials from the International Motorcycle Federation (FIM) approved the track on Saturday.

Already 30,000 tickets have been sold for the World Superbikes competition inaugural race between October 31 and November 2, with 70 per cent of the tickets being sold to people from Britain and Spain.

Further announcements on the motor park’s calendar have also been revealed, including a place on the 2009 Le Mans series.

The Le Mans race has been scheduled for July 31 to August 2 and will be replacing the Monza stage of the series. It will also be a return for night racing for the first time since 2005.

Also confirmed to take place at the park next year is the Portuguese stage of the A1 GP, which will be held at the circuit on April 12.
