Cinema in Loulé celebrates Spanish film director

LOULÉ CINEMA is paying homage to the great Spanish film director, Pedro Almodóvar, with screenings of three of his films throughout the remainder of October.

One of Almodóvar’s best-known films, made in 1999, is Tudo Sobre Mi Madre (All About My Mother), which will be screened on October 22. A single mother in Madrid sees her only son die on his 17th birthday as he runs to seek an actress’s autograph.

She goes to Barcelona to find his father, a transvestite named Lola, who does not know he has a child. She becomes the personal assistant of Huma Rojo, the actress her son admired through meeting various people along her way.

The film that will close the month of Almodóvar at Loulé cinema is his 2002 hit Hable con Ella (Talk to Her), which will be screened on October 29.

This film sees two men Benigno, and Marco, reunited at a private clinic where Benigno works, following a chance encounter at a theatre. Lydia, Marco’s girlfriend, is a bullfighter, who has been wounded and is in a coma. Benigno is also looking after another woman in a coma, Alicia, a young ballet student.

The lives of the four characters flow in all directions, with the film stretching the boundaries between reality and illusion as well as blurring the past, present and future. Fate and destiny play a large part in this film, where the four character’s paths cross leading them towards unsuspected futures.

His critical acclaim from Hollywood has ensured that with his unique style, the brilliance of Pedro Almodóvar will be scorched into the history books of cinema. This opportunity from Loulé cinema will offer viewers the chance to see his films as they should be watched – on the big screen.
