Almost 800,000 cigarettes have been seized by customs and excise officials in Portimão.
The cigarettes were found during a routine search by customs officers on August 22, hidden inside a van that was on board the Volcan de Tijarafe ferry.
The cigarettes had a commercial value of around 140,000 Euros, making this the largest seizure of tobacco ever made by officials in Portimão.
The Spanish registered van has been confiscated and the driver detained.
