Cigarettes and tobacco WON’T be withdrawn from sale at fuel filling stations

Bit by bit the heavy handed proposals designed ostensibly to “have a generation free from tobacco in 2040” are being softened. The latest ‘concession’ (before the law comes into place in October) is to sales continuing in fuel filling stations. Health minister Manuel Pizarro has conceded this had to happen, as otherwise there would be many areas of the country where citizens faced long journeys, just to be able to buy a packet of smokes… Criticism from the outset warned the proposals as they stood would simply power ‘contraband’; they would not stop smokers from lighting up.
