Church stolen

RUSSIAN ORTHODOX officials were left puzzled last week when they went to visit a church in the village of Komarovo to find that it had been stolen.

The two-storey church was last seen in July and had apparently been sold, brick by brick, to a local businessman who was paying one rouble per brick.

Officials in the diocese said they had been thinking of reopening the abandoned church for services.

Orthodox priest Vitaly said: “This is blasphemy. These people have to realise they have committed a grave sin.”

Local police are investigating the theft.
