Children and adults are welcome to join and create Christmas wreaths made with local foliage and regional fruits.
The Heritage Research and Information Centre of Cacela (Centro de Investigação e Informação do Património de Cacela) is promoting a Christmas wreath workshop, on December 3, between 15:00 and 18:00, at the Old Santa Rita Primary School, in the municipality of Vila Real de Santo António.
The workshop will be run by Rosália Campos and is aimed at children and adults alike, who will create Christmas wreaths with local foliage and fruits from the region.
“These circles of branches intertwined with leaves and flowers have been associated, since ancient times, with the celebration of the winter solstice. It is still believed that they are symbols of prosperity and a fresh start, hence the tradition of hanging them on the doorstep”, says the municipality in a statement.
Places cost between €8 and €15 and must be booked in advance by calling 281 952 600 or emailing [email protected].
