Christmas village brings seasonal smiles to Silves

Enjoying a ride on a Christmas train or a carousel, visiting Santa Claus’ house or exploring stalls selling regional products are just some of the main attractions of this year’s Christmas village ‘Alegria do Natal’ which will be open in Silves until January 7.

Free to visit, the event is held every year at the town’s main Al-Mutamid square, which is thoroughly decorated to make visitors feel like they are Santa’s guests of honour in the North Pole.

This year, there will be a large tent where local artists will be performing live in a bid to support those who have mostly been left without events or venues to play at.

The performances will be taking place almost every day until December 23 and are free, although those interested must pick up their ticket from the local library before the show or at the site of the performance.

Visitors will also be able to take an instant Polaroid-type picture to take home with them.

Similarly to last year, the festivities will be extended to Armação de Pêra and São Bartolomeu de Messines which will also boast a wealth of Christmas decorations, a “photowall” and a Christmas train.

The Christmas village in Silves will be open every day (except for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day) between 2pm and 8pm.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, visitors must abide by DGS national health board recommendations, such as using masks, disinfecting their hands and respecting social distancing.
