Christmas tree to light up children’s faces in Lisbon

Portuguese multimedia and cable TV company ZON is once again sponsoring Lisbon’s Christmas tree, which has just been erected in Eduardo VII park.

This year the tree was assembled in record time, taking only 20 days to put up using a team of 40 workmen and a crane.

The final part of the five-tier, 44-metre high Christmas tree, including the star, was put in place on November 18.

The five tiers have been clad with 1,035m2 of lighting panels depicting festive scenes designed by Abel Gomes. The 96 panels weigh 15 tonnes in total.

The Christmas tree lights will be switched this Sunday (November 29), when the giant tree will be lit up by 1,625,000 light bulbs daily from 5.30pm to 1am until January 6.
