President Marcelo has followed the example already announced by the government with regard to this year’s Christmas illuminations. “They won’t be the usual”, he has said on his official website – “taking into account the current situation in the energy market”. Minister for the presidency of the Council of Ministers Mariana Vieira da Silva has welcomed the decision, “and all those who act in this sense”. The whole country’s festive celebrations this year will be muted, perhaps with some municipalities taking advantage of solar lights to warm people’s spirits.
